First off Hi im Simon.. This is my first post.
i been playing about on my bocks now for about a month only like an hour a week. Today i decided id run as fast as i could on then as i been feeling pretty stable. My balance aint as good as i thought and fell forward and scraped up my knees. Of course not wearing pads very foolishly, fortuantly i was wearing gloves otherwise i'd of cut up my hands too. Just in case there is anyone as stupid as me out there wear pads, aint done any real damage but hurts like f**k.
Hopefully my next bocking experiance will be a more insipational one. I'll keep you posted..
.. Off to find some kneepads.

Hey Simon, im Neil - nice to have you here dude, welcome
Your a braver man than me, i always wanted to run on the stilts but i took weeks to build up to try and run flat out ! lol
But thought id mention (altho i think you kinda learnt the hard way) when it comes to pads, id suggest just getting some kneepads but also wrist guards - their the 2 real impact areas on forward falls
Other than that just to say, nice to have ya here and look forward to meeting up to bock in person soon !

Hey guys thanks for the welcoming. I've got me some pads and been back out on my bocks not running this time just trying to bounce a bit. Only getting about a foot off the floor at the mo and feeling a little unstable sometimes, So any advice on extra height or more importantly more stable jumps are welcome.
Also is there anyone up near me with bocks Pontypool, Brynmawr, Abergaveny area.
Hopefully meet up with some of you soon

Pads are for girls. You might as well go bocking in a padded room. Concrete will teach you all you need to know. There is an old saying. If you're not bleeding, you're not pushing yourself hard enough I'm kidding of course. Mostly.

I dont think ankle weights will help really. The weight they put on the ankle might be near enough the same but the way the stilt uses different muscles...I dont think it will help.
But the good news is, you'll get used to the weight the more you use them and certainly over the spring/summer period you will totally forget about this little issue.

Id agree with Matt on ankle weights - i think not so much getting used to the weight but the way the load is beearing on your legs is what i find makes it 'awkward' if you will Im from Rhondda Simon - if we can find a nice day in the week, id be happy to meet up with ya somewhere for a bounce around - im not much good myself, so any practise is good Whats your nearest train station ?

Either way is cool with me mate, Cardiff would be cool cos some of the other guys might be able to come along - but if its a bit of a trek, i dont mind taking the train. almost any excuse to get on the stilts Only problem is predicting the weather haha caught us out today after forecasting "rain should miss cardiff" ... should being the operative word there !

Looking at the weather for saturday, it says mostly dry even a lil sun, jus windy - but thats relying on the weather ppl knowing what their talking about If your free and up for the drive, can keep an eye on the weather and if all looks good, go for a bounce down the bay - dont know if anyone else can make it if the weather holds ?

Umm would all be down to the weather to be honest, Saturday says sunny intervals and looking at the weather maps, the rain band "should" have passed by mid-day Wouldnt want ya to make the drive only for it to pour down but its your call, if you were happy to risk it - il turn up and we can see if anyone else can make it too
