Relay for life
« on: April 15, 2010, 10:59:09 »

I've been asked by the cancer research uk team if we would like to enter the Relay for life on July 24th.

It takes place at the Cardiff High School Old Boys Rugby Club (it's the one on the taff trail) from 12 noon for 24 hours. There is going to be a fair amount of media there and obviously we'd stir up quite a bit of attention on the stilts. We can do the race on the stilts.
It's a relay effort so each team would do several laps (I think each lap is 400m) and most people are walking. I thought this would be a really cool event for us and it doesnt yet clash with any other dates this summer.

We need to sign up as a team so I'll do that and then everyone will need to join as a team member. I'll post up the link when this is done.

While the race is taking part there is a bit of a party going on around the field and assuming they have a PA or similar I thought we could take over the whole place for an hour. Heck we could even revive radio bock for a one off event.

Sounds interesting... We'd be walking on our stilts? No need to run or anything?... I reckon I might be able to do that XD

We can run if we like. The whole event seems to be very tongue in cheek so I would suggest walking/bouncing and just doing whatever we wanna do. No pressure at all.

Id like to give it a go, afterall my bocking dream is to run like the wind blows Tongue In the last 2 days iv walked like 4/5 miles on the stilts Cheesy

Have to agree wit ya tho Lock, at least 3x harder than on foot lol and up hill is hellish.

Held over 24 hrs sounds pretty intense - any idea how many laps each ? Or is it something we will find out more about as it comes ??

I daresay that we'll all get ready, then when one person finishes a lap the next person will head off, then after they finish the next person will head off. Sounds like that would be the easiest for us, especially if we get a load of bockers together =D

Yeeh i guess so and not having to actually race shud make it pretty mellow.

Sooo the more bockers we find, the less laps individuals have to do Cheesy Im starting the next generation of bockers local to me - causing quite a stir wandering around wit my newly found giant stature Cheesy Soo il try and recruit some fresh meat hehe

I'll have to get this clarified but I have a feeling we dont do a relay within our team.

If there is a baton as such to pass I think it will be passed to us as a team, we do our few laps or whatever and then we pass it to the next team. I dont think there are any real rules about how we do our stint but I'll check on this with the organisers once I've registered us.

Alice this is a seperate event to the race for life. This is relay for life. Same cause and organisers but this is  done in teams, open to everyone and takes place on a smaller scale.

Ok I got this all wrong.

Each team has to have a member on the track at all times during the 24 hour period. Most are walking but I think having someone on stilts on the track at all times is gonna be not so easy!

Lol i was thinking that when ya mention it - even wit a team of 10 ppl, the rotation would still be pretty intense. Ya wouldnt get chance to get ur stilts off - b4 ya gotta go for ur next lap Tongue

Could always pool like 50 bockers together ? rofl that way - when u done a lap, ya know u got plenty time to your next !
