Community Cash for Bockers

posted by Locky

It's only taken three years but we are incredibly proud to say that we have finally secured some funding after being successful in applying for a Sport Relief Community Cash grant.
The sceme which is supported by Community Foundation in Wales means we can now purchase new stilts along with knee pads and wrist guards that we can then use at public bocking sessions, events and festivals and we can now move forward with community workshops as well. [ Read full story ]

Outdoor Action Show 2010

posted by Ricky

What an amazingly weekend and a great start to a good summer!

The Cardiff Outdoor Action Show is a perfect dream for any adrenaline junky complete with climbing wall, high ropes assault course, cricket activities, rugby, football, white water rafting, biking, and who could forget.....the Welsh Bockers!!!
Yes that's right, this weekend we spent an amazing 2 days in the location of Cardiff's brand new International Sports Village where we managed to perform, attract potential bockers, meet new friends and have loads of fun in the sun!

The day started off with getting up quite early and working our way from all directions of South Wales to the sports village where we began to set up. Early in the day the site was quiet so this left us some spare time to check out the other activities that were available and get friendly with some of the other staff. The first team we met were Inertia Shows an extraordinary team of BMX stunt people who were just as crazy as us....so we got along perfectly.

As the day went on, the workshop got busier and we got tierder (is that a word? it is now!) but this didn't stop us from helping each other out and improving our team work skills to get through the day. The day was perfect to help us get into the festival mood and get our workshop skills up to excellent standards once again.

Day 2 soon began 16 hours later and we were ready for action. We got very busy, very quickly but were enjoying every second of it. There was plenty of talent showing with some new faces showing off some moves in a successful demo and enough crowd to please the adrenaline thrill that the bockers were enjoying. There was some crazy stuff going on with flips, tricks, vaults and even Jake managing to straddle over Locky on his stilts....it was breath taking.

The workshop on Sunday was even busier than Saturday which give us a chance to please the eagerly waiting long queue of kids and adults including some pensioners who were not too scared to give the craze a try.
We also got to try out an added bonus to our bocking services and give the public a chance to get photographed on the stilts and have a sticker printed out on site; a perfect collection for the family photo album.

In all this weekend turned out to be spectacular, just as we remembered the festival to be in previous years. With plenty of festivals coming up this summer, it's going to take a lot to beet this weekend and impress us even more......hopefully better than I hope my spelling and punctuation is!

Another year, another mile. This year 9 of the Welshbockers took on the sport relief mile, in the usual fancy dress with the sun beating down in Cardiff bay.
We also got featured on the "Whats on in Cardiff" site.

Well done to everyone who took part in this years Sport Relief Mile, especially those who did the 3 and 6 miles.

New Website Launched

posted by Locky

So it was a week late and that was my fault because I underestimated how much work I had left to do on the site....but it was also early as the first release date was originally March 1st. Anyway, the new site is here regardless and I really like it. The old site was 100% dependant on Flash and that was effecting some people getting access to the information. This site is just about compatible with anything :)

With the launch of our twitter account we now have news about the club coming in from all directions. It seems a lot of companies are jumping on the social network band-wagon and they do it in a lazy fashion by simply linking up their blog, twitter, facebooks and anything else so the messages on each site are exactly the same. There is absolutely no point in that. So thats exactly what we're not going to do...
This newspage is going to be kept up to date with the biggest news about the club and upcoming events and adventures. Our facebook page is more of a place for interaction where people can say hi, post photos etc but the twitter account is going to be our 'on the ground' news. It's going to be posted with news about bocking as and when it happens, either out in the bay or at swansea or wherever we happen to be. If something interesting happens at a gym session then we'll post it on twitter pretty much live as it happens. For example, in the sport relief mile next month you can expect several updates on twitter live from the event itself including pics and maybe video aswell if it's worthwhile. Hopefully, I wont be the only person tweeting.
